Alexandre Emon, miller of La Malbaie

On 28 October 1828, in the church of Saint-Étienne at La Malbaie, in the Charlevoix region of Québec, the priest recorded the marriage of 'Alexandre Emon, meunier', a miller of full age, 'son of the late Joseph Emon and of Marie Claire Bois'. His bride was Gertrude Brassard, who had been baptised at La Malbaie on 16 November 1811, the daughter of Jean Brassard and Marie-Geneviève Poitras.

His father, Joseph-Marie Emond, was the beadle of the church at Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière, a widower of Geneviève Paradis, when he married Marie Claire Bois there on 14 June 1802. He was buried on 14 July 1824, aged 76. Their sons included Simon-Rémi, who was buried at eight days old in February 1805, Eusèbe, who married at La Malbaie in 1825, and Joseph, baptised there on 20 April 1808.

Alexandre and Gertrude's son Thomas was baptised on 20 May 1831. By 1851 the family was in Osnabruck, Ontario, where Alexandre made potash. The surname appears as Emond, Emon, Hamon and, later, Amo. We suspect a later move to St Lawrence County, New York, but have not proved it.

Alexandre was born between 1803 and 1807. His own baptism has not yet been found, and it is one of the open questions on our Help us solve these page.

Confidence: proven for his parents and marriage; his own baptism has not been found

Open question: Where was Alexandre Emon baptised?

Alexandre Emon, a miller, married Gertrude Brassard at La Malbaie in 1828, and the register names his parents as the late Joseph Emon and Marie Claire Bois. He was born between 1803 and 1807, but we cannot find his baptism. We have read the baptism registers of Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière, La Malbaie and Rivière-Ouelle for the likely years without success.
